Summer Is...
Sense Poems August 2000
We became poets and illustrators during our first week of school, combining Science and Language Arts curriculum requirements in this writing assignment. We described summer associations using our five senses, wrote poetry practicing the writing process, and used our classroom computers to prepare our final copies. Our illustrations were done with colored pencils- very grown up this year!
Written by Meaghan:
Summer Is...
Summer is green
It tastes like ripe peaches
It smells like wildflowers growing in the valley
And reminds me of Monarch butterflies
It sounds like a choir of birds
Summer feels hot
Written by Chelsea:
Summer Is...
Summer is cerulean
It tastes like chocolate ice cream
It smells like pretty daisies
And reminds me of the sea
It sounds like buzzing bees
Summer feels hot
Written by Krystine:
Summer Is...
Summer is yellow
It tastes like cheesey hamburgers
It smells like the beach
And reminds me of striped bees
It sounds like scared crickets
Summer feels hot
Written by Nicholas:
Summer Is...
Summer is bright blue
It tastes like white mints
It smells like cotton candy
And reminds me of beautiful animals
It sounds like spring is in the air
Summer feels very breezy
Written by Daniel:
Summer Is...
Summer is orange
It tastes like well water
It smells like cut grass
And reminds me of car crushers
It sounds like loud crickets
Summer feels cold and warm
Written by Devin:
Summer Is...
Summer is aqua
It tastes like cheese macaroni
It smells like fresh air
And reminds me of lady painted butterflies
It sounds like small birds
Summer feels great
