Music, Music Everywhere
October 2001
We combined Social Studies, Language Arts, and Science skills in this project. We used an atlas to locate states and their capitals, wrote friendly letters, and used the Internet to practice basic searching techniques.
After reading a non-fiction selection in our Reading textbook, titled Meet the Orchestra, we selected a music-related business to write to using the Internet Yellow Pages. We wrote letters to  businesses that sold instruments, repaired instruments, or taught instrument lessons.
It is very exciting for children to receive mail addressed just to them! As we receive responses to the letters we sent, they will be added to the web page.  Please follow the links below to read some of the letters we sent and the replies we received.

Dear Sir or Madam,
Hi my name is Dalton. I am very polite. I am very friendly. I am a good person to know. I'm eight years old. I have a pet, brother, mom, and dad. I am writing because I want to know more about how to fix instruments.
How long have you been in business? How do you fix the instruments? How do you know the instruments are fixed after you fix them? What year did you start your business? Thank you very much for reading this letter.

                                                                                    Signed,

                                                                                                  Dalton

Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Aaron. I am into Gameboy and Nintendo 64. I am in third grade. My teacher is Mrs. Dingman. I am writing because I want to know how you sell the instruments.
How do you get your own store to sell the instruments? How much do the instruments cost? How many people love your instruments? How many instruments have you sold? If you write back please answer my questions. Thank you for answering my questions!

                                                                                      Sincerely,

                                                                                                     Aaron

Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Dominick. I am doing well in school. My favorite subject is Math. My dad fixes stuff that has been broken too. My big brother plays the trumpet, my mother plays the piano, and I like the drums. I am writing about fixing music instruments.
How do you fix the instruments? What tools do you use to repair the instruments? What kind of instruments do you fix? Where do you find tools to fix the instruments?

                                                                                                                  Your Friend,

                                                                                                                  Dominick

Dear Sir or Madam,
My favorite instrument to play is the violin. I like the flute also. I am writing because I want to find out about instruments. I also want to learn how to fix them.
What is your favorite instrument to fix? Do you play any instruments? Do you like the violin? Do you enjoy doing your job? Did you ever work on a violin? I really liked writing to you. Thank you for letting me send you a letter.

                                                                                                  Sincerely,

                                                                                                                  Michael
